Terms of Service

What we do
Found in Tokyo helps you locate and return items lost in the Greater Tokyo metropolitan area. We contact lost-and-found offices, kōban, transit operators, hotels, and other holders on your behalf (in Japanese), pick the item up in person if you choose, and deliver it to your Tokyo hotel or ship it internationally.
No guarantee of recovery
We do our best, but we don't control whether an item has actually been turned in, whether the holding office will release it to a third-party agent, or how long the process takes. We don't guarantee that any particular item will be recovered.
Pricing
Current prices (see the pricing section for details):
- Locate Only — ¥5,000
- Locate + Retrieve — ¥12,000
- Locate + Retrieve + Ship — ¥15,000 plus actual shipping cost
You are only charged after we have located your item and confirmed it with you. If we cannot locate it, you pay nothing. Shipping is billed at actual carrier cost with no markup.
Your responsibilities
By using the service, you agree to:
- Give us accurate information — item description, location, dates, contact details
- Provide identification or proof of ownership when the holding office (or we) require it before release
- Pay the agreed fee once the item is located (for Locate Only) or returned to you (for Locate + Retrieve / Ship)
Our right to refuse
We may decline or discontinue a case, at our discretion, if:
- The item appears to be illegal or hazardous (controlled substances, weapons, etc.)
- The claim appears fraudulent or the ownership is disputed
- We cannot lawfully handle it
Liability
Our service is provided as-is. We are not responsible for:
- Items damaged or lost before we take physical possession
- Items mishandled by common carriers during shipping (carrier insurance applies to shipped items)
- Indirect, consequential, or incidental damages
Our maximum liability for any claim is capped at the fee you paid for that case.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Tokyo.
Changes
If we change these terms, we'll update the date above. Continued use of the service after an update means you accept the updated terms.
